Oogie Schmitt is a man of many talents and fun stories from his life. He spent several years in Trona, CA, home of the “Pinnacles”. Oogie recently led an outing to theMojave Desert including a few hours in Trona. Not much left of it now as satiriclly portrayed by the road sign.
Oogie outlines his Photographic Journey below:
My photo journey started in the 8th grade when I was caddying at the Topeka country club and I picked up a photo magazine. I read it from cover to cover and began to save enough to buy my first camera. Some family issues sent me to Trona CA. where I began the 9th grade. Unfortunately something happened to the camera
and with it my interest in Photography.
However, a friends father had a dark room and I learned how to develop and print in black and white. Fast forward to early 60’s. I got married. Three little boys came along and it was time for a camera. At first a point and shoot then a SLR with the requisite lenses and I was off to my own darkroom.
Many years later I was introduced to Digital and a new journey began. I am still on that journey today.
