I’m interested in your group. I would like to attend the Nov. meeting but I’d like to know what in general terms takes place between 6 and 8:30. Since I don’t know any body there, a pre-meeting socializing time would be a bit awkward, even if I tend to be a friendly type.

    • Gary Cox says:

      Hi John

First I identify with your discomfort to walking into a room of strangers and feeling the pressure to socialize. I encourage you to visit our November meeting. Our group is welcoming but far from pushy. We are all about offering shooting opportunities (outings) and learning opportunities (workshops and meeting speakers). All of these allow natural interaction with other photographers based on our common interest – photography.

      The typical meeting format is:
Gathering – attendees arrive and socialize or just sit down and wait for the official start. We do ask members and guests to register their attendance as they enter the room.

Recognition of new members and first time guests. Guests are asked to identify themselves and state what type of photography they like and what brand of camera they use. Participation is Optional. It is just an Icebreaker to encourage members to interact with guest and make them feel welcome.

Committee reports – A brief review of past and future activity by each committee chairperson (Outings, Outreach, Workshops, Membership, and Communications) -15 Minutes

A featured photographer presentation. One active member presents their story and some of their pictures. – 15 minutes

An educational presentation by one of the members – Usually how to use a feature in Lightroom or photoshop or a technical item of interest. 20 minutes

A presentation of member photos from recent outings or other events. We use a shared SmugMug account for participants to showcase their photos from Outings or other events.

      Break – 15 minutes

Presentation by our featured Speaker. This month our speaker is Kristi Elias (see Southcountyphotoclub.com for more details) 30-45 minutes depending on the speaker.

Then we adjourn before 8:30 PM

Most of us get to know other members at our outings and other events over time and then catch up at meetings as time permits.

I hope this gives you a better idea about our club and how we operate.

I hope you will give us a try at the next meeting.

      Regards

      Gary Cox – Communications Chairperson
